In January, everyone was talking about gold.

Your colleague bought a bar. The family WhatsApp group shared the price every morning. Someone's uncle said it would never come down.

Now it's October. Gold is more than a quarter cheaper than it was in January. And that WhatsApp group has gone very quiet.

So, is this a chance to buy? Or a sign to stay away?

The short answer

Nobody knows if gold will fall further or bounce back next week. But if you buy a little at a time, you don't need to know.

What happened to the gold price?

Gold hit a record of around $5,600 an ounce in January 2026. On 23 October, it was around $4,020. That's roughly 28% lower.

In Dubai, that put 24K gold at around AED 482 a gram on 23 October.

Why did it fall? Mainly interest rates. In the US, rates are expected to stay high, and may even go up. Gold doesn't pay interest, so when savings and bonds pay more, some big investors move their money there for a while.

Has the bigger picture changed?

Not if you look at who's still buying.

Central banks, the people who look after whole countries' savings, bought 289 tonnes of gold in April to June. That's 62% more than the same months last year.

As the World Gold Council put it: "Gold's early-year rally reversed in the second quarter, with prices consolidating after correcting from record highs."

In plain words: gold ran up very fast, then took a breather.

So should you buy now?

Three honest truths.

  1. Nobody can call the bottom. Not your uncle. Not the news. Not us.
  2. Waiting for the perfect price usually means not buying at all. By the time it feels safe, the price has often moved.
  3. Buying in small steps takes the guessing out. If the price drops more, your next buy gets more grams. If it rises, you're glad you started.

That's exactly what many analysts are suggesting right now: spread your buying over several months instead of going all in on one day.

How to do that on JustGold

Switch on Auto Save. Pick an amount you won't miss, and choose daily, weekly or monthly.

Then let it run. No more checking the price every morning.

Remember what gold is for

Gold isn't a get-rich-quick plan. It's the steady part of your savings. The part your family has always trusted, through good years and bad ones.

It can go down. It has before, and it will again. That's why it works best as one part of your savings, built up slowly.

Your family has always saved in gold. Now start with the tap of a button.

This is general information, not financial advice.

FAQ

Why did gold fall in 2026?
Mainly interest rates. US rates are expected to stay high, which makes gold less attractive to some big investors for a while.

Will gold go back up?
Nobody knows for sure. Central banks are still buying a lot of it, which many see as a good sign for the long run.

Is it better to buy all at once or bit by bit?
For most people, bit by bit. It means you don't have to guess the right day.
